Did you know that the Clock Icon on the Apple iPad and iPhone* is ‘alive’ and it is actually a ticking clock telling time? Possibly you would have also noticed that the Calendar Icon isn’t just static too; it actually tells the current day and date.
Why go that ‘far’ with the details? But then again, why not? Apple devices aren’t cheap, yet Apple’s mobile phone market share is significantly large. Logically speaking, why would one spend that much to get a device that does almost the same thing a less pricey device could have done? Scientific research suggests that people generally make emotional decisions then find logical reasons to justify them.
The human reasoning may appear random but it is highly guided by sets of principles that determine the decisions we make and these decisions are closely shaped by our perceptions whether we are conscious of this or not.
Successful businesses may have great leaders, the right products, other great things and sometimes great marketing, but outstanding businesses pay the utmost attention to details. They consistently choose quality over speed and only when quality is achieved do they turn their attention to speed. True efficiency is the delicate blend of quality and speed. Finding this balance takes time and only a few leaders are willing to pay the price.
…the decisions we make … are closely shaped by our perceptions whether we are conscious of this or not.
In the words of Og Mandino, “Today, and every day, deliver more than you are getting paid to do. The victory of success will be half won when you learn the secret of putting out more than is expected in all that you do. Make yourself so valuable in your work that eventually you will become indispensable. Exercise your privilege to go the extra mile, and enjoy all the rewards you receive. You deserve them!”
Pay attention to little details. Pay attention to all details; in this, you will find the road map to excellence!
